Cobo announces pre-orders for Cobo Vault, a military-grade cryptocurrency hardware wallet with 360° of security
engineered in three individual parts — its body, case and battery — all of which work in symphony to weather impacts, water damage, and even battery corrosion.
engineered in three individual parts — its body, case and battery — all of which work in symphony to weather impacts, water damage, and even battery corrosion.
Durability
Cobo Vault’s body boasts a 4-inch, 300 PPI LCD display
and resists water damage with an IP68 waterproof rating. Its rugged, IK10 and
MIL-STD-810G certified, brushed aluminum case withstands accidental drops, icy
conditions, vibrations, or even the pressure of a car driving over its body.
Finally, its battery is practically designed, to not only be easily detached
from Cobo Vault’s body, but also to prevent battery corrosion which would
otherwise irreparably damage a cold storage wallet.
Hardware Security
As a hallmark of Cobo’s philosophy of prevention, all
physical points of attacks are removed in Cobo Vault’s design. In lieu of a USB
port — the single most common access point for hackers to root a cryptocurrency
hardware wallet — Cobo Vault instead can be upgraded by inserting a TF Card,
which upgrades your Cobo Vault, without necessitating the purchase of a new
device altogether. Transactions can also be conducted instead over the air,
which prevents man-in-the-middle attacks, by simply scanning a dynamically
changing QR code. Adding a secondary level of hardware security, Cobo Vault
instantly triggers a self-destruct mechanism that wipes all stored private keys
and data in the event of an attempt to physically force open its body to
conduct a circuit hack.
Software Security
Not without attention to the most important security
layer, Cobo Vault offers industry-leading protection through multiple software
defense points including online multi-factor authentication, multi-password
protection, and recovery of your wallet with a 24 word mnemonic phrase.
However, Cobo Vault takes extra measures, beyond industry standards, to protect
your private key. Most cold storage wallets use open source security libraries
that only temporarily store private keys in their encryption chip, oftentimes
leaving it to an operating system to futilely protect your key. Cobo Vault on
the other hand uses a bank-grade encryption chip, combined with a proprietary
BIP 32, 39, 44 compliant firmware, designed from scratch, that for the first
time in the industry keeps your private key stored in the encryption chip at
all times — the safest possible means of securing your key from hackers.
While only weighing about as much as the average
smartphone, Cobo Vault is a new class of cryptocurrency hardware wallets,
introducing a bank vault-level of security for crypto investors, but fits into
your pocket.
“With the increasing investment into
cryptocurrencies, the only truly safe means of securing your crypto is to store
it in a cold storage wallet,” said Changhao Jiang, Co-founder and CTO of Cobo.
“Cobo Vault sets a new, groundbreaking standard for cold storage wallet, with
the first truly all-around secure hardware wallet designed for holders that
can’t risk losing their investment.”
Cobo also announces that it has raised $13 Million USD
in Series A funding, lead by DHVC and Wu Capital, which will be used to further
develop Cobo Vault. The new investment will help Cobo expand its various
product lines in overseas markets, including software, hardware and more in the
future.
“Crypto has come a long way since I
first ventured into this space. While I’m excited to see that crypto investment
and enthusiasm is on the rise globally, a majority of crypto assets remain
dormant in an exchange or wallet for extended periods of time, which creates
many lost opportunities,” said Jiang. “As crypto becomes widely recognized as a
legitimate financial instrument, our goal is to provide a rewards system that
leverages unutilized assets to enrich investors and accelerate the growth of
the entire crypto ecosystem.”
Cobo Vault will be available for pre-order on Indiegogo beginning October 17, 2018.
